CLAT 2025 – An Introduction
The Common Law Admission Test, popularly known as CLAT, is a National Level Entrance Exam conducted all over the nation annually. It is conducted for admissions to Integrated Undergraduate and Postgraduate Law courses like BA LLB, B.com LLB, BBA LLB, BSc LLB, BSW LLB, and LLM. It is organized by the Consortium of National Law Universities, comprising representative universities.
The CLAT score is accepted by 24 National Law Universities and various affiliated private and self-funded universities and colleges for admission. There was a significant change during the 2019 exam when the exam conducting criteria were changed. Until 2018, the exam was conducted by various NLUs on a rotational basis. Still, after that, a permanent body was named “Consortium of NLUs” that is now responsible for leading the CLAT exam.
The CLAT 2025 examination will be held in offline mode, but the applications will be made online on the consortium of NLUs official website. The examination will be held in December 2024 and candidates have to focus on the CLAT mock test for better preparation.
CLAT mock test is essential for preparing for the CLAT 2025 exam. Candidates are advised to practice using the CLAT mock test to familiarize themselves with the exam pattern and improve their time management skills. Additionally, the CLAT mock test helps in identifying weak areas that need more focus.

CLAT 2025 – Important Facts
It is happening for the very first time that the CLAT paper has been conducted twice a year. CLAT 2024 was held in June 2024. CLAT 2025 will be held in December 2024. The candidates can appear for both exams. CLAT 2025 will be conducted for admission to 22 National Law Universities. All the National Law Universities participate in this exam except the National Law University Delhi, which conducts a separate entrance examination – The All-India Law Entrance Test. CLAT gets around 70,000 registrations every year. The candidates can use CLAT 2025 scores for admission to several law colleges other than NLUs. These colleges are called CLAT-affiliated colleges as they sign agreements with the NLU Consortium. The academic year in national law universities is set to begin around July or August 2024. The counseling will be conducted based on CLAT scores.
CLAT 2025 – Eligibility Criteria
The CLAT eligibility criteria include the details about the minimum qualifying marks, minimum educational qualification, and age limit required for a candidate to appear for the CLAT exam. The following criteria are to be followed by candidates appearing for the UG program and PG program respectively to appear in the CLAT 2025 exam:
NOTE: There used to be an age criterion earlier in the CLAT exam, but the Consortium has removed this criterion in recent modifications.
CLAT 2025 Exam – Pattern
The duration for both CLAT UG and CLAT PG exams is 2 hours. The exam will be conducted in offline mode. CLAT UG will have 150 questions, whereas CLAT PG will have 120 questions. A correct answer carries 1 mark, whereas there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks.
CLAT 2025 Exam – Syllabus
The CLAT Exam will be discussed in two parts:
PART-1
The CLAT UG syllabus is divided into the following areas: English Language, Current Affairs Including General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, Legal Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques.
English Language (28-32 questions)
This section tests the candidate’s basic understanding in comprehension, grammar, etc. Candidates are advised to cover topics like Tenses, Articles, Prepositions, Active & Passive Voice, Modals, Concord (Subject-Verb Agreement), Verbs- Their formation and their usage, Spotting grammatical errors in sentences, etc. It consists of passages of around 450 words.
Current Affairs Including General Knowledge (35-39 questions)
This section is about current affairs and static General Knowledge. It includes the following sections: Present events of significance from India and the world, Arts and culture, International affairs, and Historical events of continuing significance.
Logical Reasoning (35-39 questions)
This section also includes passages, and based on those passages, the candidates must answer the questions. Some important topics of this section are: Series Completion; Number Series and Alphabet Series; Analogy; Blood Relation; Puzzle Test; Syllogism; Premises and Conclusion; Cause and Effect; Course of action.
Legal Reasoning (28-32 questions)
This section tests the legal knowledge of the candidates covering topics like: Legal Terms & Maxims; Indian Constitution; Torts; Criminal Law; Landmark Judgments; Reading Newspaper & Understanding legal concepts.
Quantitative Techniques (13-17 questions)
This section intends to check the Quantitative abilities of the candidates. The topics included in this section are: Average, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Time & Distance, Volume & Surface Area, Statistics, Basic Algebra, Bar Diagram, Bar Graph, Tabular Diagram, Line Graph, Pie Chart.
PART-2
CLAT PG subjects stress applicants’ comprehensive competence in many law chapters. CLAT Syllabus for PG is based on the mandatory subjects of the UG curriculum, such as Criminal Law, Property Law, Company Law, Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, and Administrative Law., Law of Contract, Torts, Family Law, Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, and Labor & Industrial Law.
CLAT 2025 – Exam Centers
The consortium will conduct the CLAT 2025 exam in around 131 exam centers. Candidates will be provided exam centers as per their preference and available seats in the preferred exam centers. Candidates can check the designated exam center on their admit card.
CLAT 2025 – Preparation Tips
The following tips can be followed to prepare for the CLAT exam thoroughly:
