As things return to normal, John resumes work travel, which Ash and I join. Woot Woot! A work conference provided us with an excellent excuse to escape for a few days. We left snowy, freezing Salt Lake and arrived in beautiful, 80-degree sunshine.

Where to stay?
John’s presentation was held at the Omni in downtown Dallas. The hotel is conveniently located near the Arts District, the meeting center, and Dealey Plaza, which makes it an excellent choice for travelers on business. If you need to stay in downtown, I suggest the Statler. Since the 1950s, the tower, now part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, has served as a Dallas landmark. A smart refurbishment with a retro-chic ambiance and interesting amenities. A pool, bowling alley, and speakeasy make this a fun location to hang out.
The Adolphus Hotel is part of Marriott’s Autograph group and another historic landmark in the city. It was Dallas’ first luxurious hotel when it debuted in 1912, and it is today regarded as one of the town’s most picturesque sites. Even if you don’t stay, it’s worthwhile stopping by for supper or to admire the stunning building.
The Joule rounds out my list of recommended hotels in downtown Dallas. In a stunning 1920s neo-Gothic edifice in the heart of Dallas’ major business area. You’ll find stunning art installations, unique shopping stores, and a spa. And an incredible 8-foot cantilevered pool above Main Street.
There are some interesting districts to see downtown, but we favor Uptown when we stay in Dallas.
Uptown is to die for. If you want to stay somewhere lovely with plenty of interesting shopping and dining options nearby. Both Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek and Hotel Crescent Court are worth considering. Both are gorgeous residences that provide every amenity for a pleasant, peaceful weekend getaway.

Things to Do in Dallas, Texas
Flying into DFW is simple, and it’s only a 20-minute drive from downtown. Love Field is very located, and if you fly Southwest Airlines, this will be your preferred airport. You will need a car to get around in Dallas. Things are a bit of a drive, and you’ll appreciate the convenience of having your car.
Bishop’s Art District
Known as Dallas’ most independent neighborhood. This little retail and dining district is brimming with adorable stores and delicious places to eat.
Deep Ellum
When I first visited Deep Ellum a few years ago, it was considered “up and coming.” It has arrived, and it is a busy district with plenty of fascinating street art, unusual stores, and enough good cuisine.
Fort Worth Stockyards
Every day of the week between 11:30 and 4 p.m., a herd of longhorns can be seen roaming together the street in Fort Worth’s nostalgic, historic district. Wear your boots and cowboy hat and enjoy Western culture in the stockyards. There are many shops and eateries to visit here.
North Park Mall
230 high-end stores. Do I need to say something else? If you prefer shopping, this is where you need to go. It’s also a beautiful spot to walk about. Even if you don’t enjoy shopping.
West Village and McKinney Avenue Trolley
Another cute commercial district. This one offers the free McKinney Trolley, which is adorable and delightful to ride.
